Magnificent Westcliff heritage property, Glenshiel, opens its doors for the much-anticipated, annual Glenshiel Christmas Fair, from 17 – 20 October, with a VIP preview on Wednesday 16 October.
The festive market hosts 80 stall holders from throughout South Africa – from the Cape to the Midlands – as well as vendors from the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe and focuses on bespoke, artisanal, beautifully-made items including shoes, scarves, bags, jewellery, clothing, décor items, fabrics, fragrances, beauty products, accessories and luxury goods offering Jozi residents some of the most stylish and ‘on-trend’ items.
Whether you’re looking to bring some life into your home and office with beautiful linens, furniture and custom stationery, or get a head start on your Christmas to-do list there will be handcrafted Christmas treats from cookies to cakes and decorations. Of course, there are boutique wines and tasty food stalls – be sure to fill up on pizza, paella, paninis or try some authentic Greek and Argentinian cuisine making this a great early-summer weekend event – in aid of a good cause. The proceeds of each entrance or raffle ticket sold goes towards the valuable work of the Order of St John (NPO 000-814) to further their eye care, first aid, youth development and community health care projects across the country.
Previous fairs have allowed the Order of St John to provide health care training in numerous under resourced rural communities in partnership with the Phelophepa Train as well as refurbish a mobile eye clinic, able to reach those communities who do not have access to affordable, professional eye care services.
The glorious iconic house is open for viewing – admire the grand panelled rooms of this beautiful historic mansion, designed by Sir Herbert Baker in 1910; and stroll through the wonderful gardens which overlook Joburg’s oldest suburb. The much-coveted views from on the crest of the ridge are fantastic, giving guests a bird’s eye view of the city’s thousands of blooming purple jacarandas.
Careful curation by the organisers, ensures that the Glenshiel Fair is far from an ordinary market – it’s a sensory experience when guests can immerse themselves in a unique atmosphere which radiates a genuine sense of festive joy and community.
Guests are invited to support raffles and competitions which boast some great prizes.
Guests are advised that this is a cashless shopping experience. There will be no ATM machines on site.
The Glenshiel Fair spans four and a half days – from 17 – 20 October, with an exclusive “Shopping Under the Stars” event on Wednesday 16 October from 5pm until 9pm. This exclusive preview features live music, delicious snacks, a complimentary coffee and two complimentary drinks.
