After Years behind the microphone, as a backing vocalist, BusiGold steps into the spotlight with her own single Mvelinqangi, a taste of what is to come in her album ‘Seasons.’
.
On Friday, 7 November 2025, worldly singer and songwriter Busisiwe Sibeko, fondly known by the name BusiGold, releases her single ‘Mvelinqangi’, which is a build-up to the release of her 10-track album titled ‘Seasons’ due for release on 21 November 2025.
Mvelinqangi is a Nguni word when translated to English, means “The creator,” or “the Most High.”
“Mvelinqangi is a Mbaqanga chant; it will resonate with South Africans because it’s part of our culture, to sing for every occasion,” BusiGold says.
Her upcoming album ‘Seasons’ is a conversation between the mind and soul, where one encourages the other to believe and pursue the dreams, to heal and be courageous. Her sound is mellow, jazzy, fun and features one dance song inspired by Amapiano.

Having toured Europe and Africa performing as a backup singer for multi-award winning artists such as the likes of Simphiwe Dana, Nhlanhla Nciza, Grammy Award winner Wouter Kellerman, Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP), Angelique Kidjo, and many others. BusiGold’s sound surpasses any borders. It infuses melodic sounds of Afro-Soul, Jazz and Gospel, and Mbaqanga, celebrating the sounds and influences of the African continent.
“It is a true reflection of our faith and hope as South Africans, full of affirmation and prayer. Smooth enough to play on Jazz lovers and stages, and spiritual to take straight to church. It is South African culture,” BusiGold says.
“It is a beautiful way to keep a song in your heart. Bringing nostalgic sounds of African sounds, deeply influenced by the once that have walked before us.”
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Why the title ‘Seasons’ for your upcoming album?
In life we go through different seasons, which often teach us to accept life as it comes. They teach us to also work on ourselves for the new season and to position ourselves to receive life’s beautiful gifts. This album is for every season and chapter of life.
How would you describe your sound and style of music?
My sound is authentically South African, a sound that will leave you feeling nostalgic. I call it ‘the gospel according to BusiGold.’
Having been a minute backing singer for so long, what encouraged you to go solo?
I always believed that I have something to say and contribute outside of being a backing vocalist. I knew I wanted to be a part of this beautiful musical conversation we have in Africa and abroad. I was just patiently waiting for my turn. Being a backing vocalist has taught me to serve with grace, and it was a beautiful opportunity.
Having worked with so many award-winning stars, what are some of the memorable moments as a backing vocalist?
Working with Babu Themba Mkhize and Mam Sibongile Khumalo at the same time on a project called “Soul on Turf” was amazing. Being afforded an opportunity to work with Herbie Tsoaeli, Vusi Khumalo, to name a few, was also something magical.
But great memories are when I was starting out as a singer, how the community of Zola, Soweto, where I came from, rallied behind me when I entered Coca Cola Pop Stars. My mother, siblings, and community made sure that I had everything I needed, from clothing to money. I really appreciate Zola as a community, and I reflect and carry their love for me everywhere I go.
What sets you apart from other vocalists?
It’s my simplistic approach to music, sounds that can literally make a child smile.
Had you not been a singer, what would you be doing?
I had an interest in visuals arts. So, I guess I’d still be an artist one way or the other.
Who played a significant role in your music career and why?
Mam Sibongile Khumalo took me by the hand to idols, and told me to do what I can to focus and be teachable, but never forget to have fun.
Then later, I met Simphiwe Dana, a well of wisdom and impeccable creativity in sound and lyric. She opened herself up to the world, and being part of that was remarkable, so growing up in an acapella background, her music landed on my spirit.
