As a food lover , I recently visited one of Johannesburg’s hottest restaurants, Ukko, which is located in Bryanston, north of Johannesburg. It is located at the Nicolway Shopping centre and it brings its own aesthetic with its stylish and inviting interior matched with attention to detail. Ukkō delivers an experience that feels like a mini holiday to the Mediterranean, right in the heart of Johannesburg.

The moment you arrive the atmosphere is free flowing and carries your table, already making you feel welcomed. Once you have been seated, you are met with a vibrant menu of Mediterranean Tapas and fine Sushi. We were welcome with a Mediterranean-inspired appetizer, Lamb Croquettes. We followed with Caesar Bottarga Salad for starters which was crunchy and full of flavour. For the main dish I had the Sirloin on the Bone which was fully satisfying as I am a big meat lover. We paired this with a bottle of wine from their large wine collection, ending the night with some cocktails and some Basque Cheesecake for dessert. These are some of their new offerings which are a must try.

The vibe is nothing short of buzzing. efficient, friendly service from the time you arrive and throughout the entire evening, not once did I have to look for the person serving me. This kept the night flowing seamlessly, with food and drinks arriving fast and on time. The waiter was very knowledgeable about all the items on menu and presented everything with care, making the experience more engaging. The space itself is aesthetically pleasing—ideal for a night out with friends, a romantic anniversary dinner, or a birthday celebration.
