In a significant recognition of her impact on Africa’s digital future, Maha Jouini, Vice President of the Agence Francophone et Africaine de l’Intelligence Artificielle (AFRIA), was recently named one of CIO Views Magazine’s Top 10 Influential African Women in Tech 2025 for pioneering AI and Digital Tech for unprivileged African and Arab women. Featured on the cover of the publication’s latest edition, Maha is celebrated for her groundbreaking work in AI policy, data ethics, and digital sovereignty across Francophone Africa.
A leading voice in the responsible development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Maha’s work highlights AI’s potential as a driver of economic inclusion and empowerment, particularly for women and youth. As a Fellow Researcher at the Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP) and a former country researcher for the Responsible AI Global Index, she has contributed to shaping policies that promote ethical AI adoption across the continent.
Her extensive publications in both Arabic and English explore the intersection of technology and development, emphasising the need for African-led solutions in the global digital economy. Through her advocacy, Maha has championed AI access and digital literacy for underprivileged African and Arab women, further solidifying her role as a trailblazer in the field.
As we continue to commemorate both International Women’s Month as well as Human Rights Month, Maha’s recognition underscores the critical role women play in shaping Africa’s tech policy landscape and driving innovation for a more inclusive digital future.
