
Dr Palesa Monyake is a young Passionate Paediatric Intensivist currently working at the Netcare Waterfall Hospital and Netcare Garden City Hospital in both Paediatric ICU’s. She was previously employed with the Department of Health and worked at the Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital where she established a Paediatric ICU. This was the only Paediatric ICU in the Ekuhuleni District, as well as a 6 bedded Paediatric High Care Unit. Dr Monyake was also a senior lecturer at the University of Pretoria where she taught undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. She was responsible for the College of Medicine Diploma of Child Health clinical examination for the University of Pretoria, and mentored numerous junior medical doctors.
She was previously employed at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH) where she also established a new Paediatric ICU together with the Head of the Unit at the time. She was involved in the teaching and mentoring of young doctors while working at NMCH. She completed her Critical Care Fellowship at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital as well as NMCH.
She was named as one of Mail & Guardian SA young 200 in 2019. She served as the Secretary of the CCSSA Egoli Branch. In 2002, she was awarded the Gallagher Scholarship that funded her undergraduate studies at the University of Cape Town.
Dr Monyake currently serves on the South African Paediatric Association Executive Committee, and leads the South African Paediatric Registrars Association.
She is a hard working, intelligent young woman who strives to improve the lives of patients, junior doctors and those around her.
