*Music and Climate Change* What is the significance of releasing this body of work now? This is an import time. Everybody can see that the weather is changing because of come change. We need our old planet back. We need to change our habits. Our project might be a drop in the ocean, but the ocean is made of drops. Everybody should do everything g they can to help. Our contribution as artists is to give the change a language. What was the thought process and inspiration in your choice of collaborations? We are very broody of the people we are collaborating with. Boohle, LeeMcKrazy, Zee and all the other amazing artist.
They have strong voices and people listen to them. How does your music reflect your concerns about climate change? The deeper I dig down in the conflict the more scary and serious it is. I think it difficult to relate to. We, as artist have to create a positive language that people can tab into. Like – Let’s have a party and clean up the mess. We have to have a positive attitude to make this work. Do you incorporate environmental themes into your lyrics? Our lyrics for this “Music in space” project is the hardest I have ever done. All songs have a double meaning.
When we sing “you are a Rockstar” Then we actually talk about, that you have the power to change your life. The club banger “Party” is a song about pollution. So “All I did was a Party” means “all I did was polluting. it’s subtle, but you will get it quite quick when you listen to the lyrics. Can music influence climate awareness and action? Yes. Absolutely. We all have a soundtrack in our life.
When we fall in love. When we break up. This music is made for sneaking in on you. The news doesn’t change people’s habits. This project works with what the Astronauts call “the overview effect ” A phenomenon that changes their perspective on the planet look down on earth. We use other same thing. *Climate Change in South Africa* With the rare climate change issues facing South Africa, what is your take on the heavy snowfall? The heavy snowfall is a sign that we need to do something now. Like right now. I have been traveling the world with this music the last 4 years. Playing concerts, recording local artist, and making interviews with environment professors.
They all say that climate change change is man made. Between 97% and 99%. There is absolutely no doubt except at people from the oil and coal industry. People loosing money because they now need a new job. Climate change is man made, and is we don’t change now, half of South Africa 🇿🇦 could be covered in ice and snow in a not to distant future. Try to google the “AMOC” or the Gulf Stream. The predictions say it will stop within 25 years. How does climate change impact weather patterns, agriculture, and human settlements? Very heavy impact. As I say we talk about global warming. But in the essence climate change means, that some places it’s getting warmer some places colder. The weather is getting more extreme. What role do you think South Africa should play in global climate efforts?
First of all South Africa have some of the smartest people on the planet. And some of the most creative. I think South Africa could make crazy amounts along money, being one of the driving forces in the region. What policy changes or initiatives would you advocate for? First of all education. Everybody must understand that we all have responsibility. Our energy consumption. But also in fashion. Why isn’t SA the driving force in climate friendly fashion design ? It’s possible to make CO2 Negative clothing. So the more you use, the more you save in CO2.
SA can and will be changing a lot soon. Solar panels is another way d stable energy. As a musician and climate expert, how do you balance artistic expression with scientific advocacy? I don’t see there is any contradiction. Science and art have always gone hand in hand. It’s beautiful. What drives your passion for climate action? What’s your message to the public regarding climate change? My own home country Denmark 🇩🇰 is getting flooded. My birth town will not exist in 50-100 years. I think it’s a disaster. I have an idea that the Music in Space is gonna be a global player in saving the planet. We have been on television and reached more than a billion people so far. We have played stadium concerts.
We have changed the laws of climate change in UN general assembly. I believe we can change the world by providing a new language and hope. I mean. We just have to plant trees on 2% of land on Earth to fix it. It’s pretty simple. And now millions of scientists are working on energy solutions. We can and we will fix this. We just have to join forces, forget about the same, and work along the same direction.
