SITA (State Information Technology Agency) is proud to announce the launch of the 2025 Cyber Labs initiative, a groundbreaking effort to empower learners and bridge the digital divide in education in collaboration with the Department of Digital and Communications Technology and the Department of Basic Education.
Over the next few weeks, this initiative will see six schools from disadvantaged communities across six provinces equipped with cutting-edge technology. This transformative project is part of SITA’s ongoing commitment to digital inclusion and aims to provide underserved schools with the tools and resources needed to prepare learners for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In 2024, the initiative successfully impacted over 4,175 learners and their surrounding communities by creating an environment where technology fosters academic development and skills growth.
The Cyber Labs initiative is more than just an investment in technology. It is an investment in SA youth, their future and the country’s economic potential. By equipping learners with the tools they need to thrive in a high-tech world, SITA is bridging the digital divide and fostering a culture of innovation and opportunity across South Africa.

SITA’s acting Managing Director, Mr. Simphiwe Dzengwa highlights the broader impact of the project: “This initiative goes beyond classrooms. It empowers entire communities by providing connectivity and resources that unlock opportunities for learning, innovation and growth. Together with our partners, we are driving digital inclusion and ensuring that no learner is left behind in the journey toward a connected South Africa.”
The rollout of these Cyber Labs marks a significant milestone in SITA’s efforts to modernise education and create a digitally inclusive society. These resources not only enhance academic development but also ignite a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) among young learners, laying a strong foundation for their future careers.
This year’s program will focus on six schools from various provinces where the ICT gap is most pronounced. The project will also ensure that learners in these schools can participate in a world increasingly driven by technology and innovation. By providing tools such as laptops, interactive whiteboards and internet connectivity, the initiative sets the stage for a brighter, more inclusive future.
The Cyber Labs initiative includes:
- Laptops per school to support digital learning.
- Internet connectivity, ensuring continuous access to online resources.
- Interactive whiteboards and charging stations for collaborative and uninterrupted learning.
- Specialised training in digital literacy, coding and robotics to equip learners with future-ready skills.
Over the coming weeks, SITA invites the public to follow company as it rolls out this initiative and transform education across the nation.
