So, students have support when it comes to housing, tuition, textbook allowances, however students have other expenses that government funding allowances might not stretch to. To name a few, these expenses are food, travelling, medication, basic clothing, etc. It is very much the lifestyle benefits to support students along with the government funding.
- What specific challenges do students face financially, and how does Varsity Vibe address them?
Varsity Vibe was created by former students, for students. Most students are not earning a salary and are dependent on either government funding, bursaries or parents to fund their basics, but the fact still remains that student expenses are high.
In 2020, when a lot of students started learning about Varsity Vibe, it was just after we introduced a Freemium model, kind of like a try before you buy membership option. Varsity Vibe has two membership options: The Freemium options, which has discounts students need like textbook and pharmacy discounts and this membership is actually free, you just need to verify that you’re a student on Varsity Vibe.
And then we also have the Premium option, that has additional benefits, which is students can either pay to upgrade to (it’s a R200 annual subscription fee) or if they bank with Standard Bank and between 16 and 25, they can get access to Varsity Vibe Premium for FREE.
- How do students exactly benefit from the discount aid Varsity Vibe provides with their retail partners?
Everything is facilitated via the App or the mobi-site, which is exactly like the App. So students would just go onto the App or website, select the deal they want to redeem and then the app will give them the code or barcode to show the staff at check-out to redeem the deal. Every deal has a how to redeem section on the app, this will explain how to get the deal in-store or online.
- How does varsity Vibe measure the impact of these discounts on students’ lives?
By how much students are saving. The core idea of Varsity Vibe is to add value to students in any way we can. Students saving money means that’s more money back in their pockets, and that is how we know we make an impact in students’ lives, knowing that they are saving money by using Varsity Vibe.
