The dsm-firmenich Running Team, home to marathon icon Eliud Kipchoge, has announced a new partnership with Huawei. As the team’s official technology partner, Huawei joins forces with this unparalleled squad, known as the world’s most formidable running team, to elevate the spirit of running, inspire a deeper passion for the sport, and advocate for smarter, data-driven training. Bringing together elite athletic performance and advanced wearable technology, the collaboration adds fresh momentum to the global running movement while signalling a bold return by Huawei to the professional running watch arena.
Widely regarded as a living legend among runners worldwide, Eliud Kipchoge’s career is defined by moments that have reshaped what the sport believes is possible. His historic marathon time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 40 seconds shattered the elusive two-hour barrier, a feat that redefined the limits of human capabilities and embodied his belief that “No Human Is Limited.”
For Eliud, running has never been about exclusivity. He believes it’s a universal pursuit open to all, regardless of age, ambition or distance goals. It’s a symbol of freedom, a pathway to health, and a powerful expression of unity. In November 2025, after earning the prestigious Seven Star medal, Kipchoge unveiled an ambitious new chapter in his career: a global quest to run seven marathons on seven continents. Through this extraordinary journey, he aims to bridge diverse cultures through running and inspire healthier lives globally.
To champion a universal passion for running, Eliud sought a globally influential partner whose technology could support runners at every level and reach a truly global community. Huawei has proved to be the perfect match. For over 12 years, Huawei has been at the forefront of the health and fitness sector, shipping over 200 million wearable devices worldwide by June 2025[1] and leading global shipments in the first three quarters of the same year. Thanks to its commitment to innovation and expansive user community, Huawei embodies the essence of running excellence. Its advanced wearable solutions provide Kipchoge and his team with invaluable insights, such as precise training data and scientific load evaluations, empowering elite runners to break through performance barriers and redefine what’s possible.
The collaboration’s timing couldn’t be more perfect, as Huawei prepares to unveil a new professional running watch, five years after the debut of the first-generation HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner in 2021. What can we expect from this new iteration? This time, Huawei has meticulously honed its technological edge with its HUAWEI TruSense system delivering unparalleled comprehensive health and fitness tracking, combined with its Sunflower positioning system, which delivers unrivalled GPS accuracy.
According to Huawei, rigorous testing of the device involved over 100 runners to ensure race performance predictions exceed a 97% accuracy[2] rate, while a fatigue assessment machine learning model empowers athletes to train smarter. As a result of its partnership with the dsm-firmenich Running Team, elite runners like Kipchoge and Joshua Cheptegei will contribute real-world insights from training and race days, driving iterative improvements in algorithms and features, providing Huawei with the data needed to craft and fine-tune devices that genuinely resonate with the needs of runners.
Designed to satisfy the demands of seasoned runners while remaining accessible to beginners, the watch also supports recreational runners and everyday users with a comprehensive approach to health management. By removing barriers and bringing together professional-grade performance with accessible health tracking, Huawei makes it possible for more people to experience the joy and benefits of running.
