
Meet the talented team behind Kagiso Media Radio’s exciting partnership with Time Out in South Africa.
Kagiso Media Radio (KMR) is expanding its editorial department by adding standout talent to its Time Out South Africa team.
In 2024, KMR partnered with Time Out, a global brand that inspires and enables people to experience the best of the city, to introduce the brand to SA.
Time Out Cape Town digital channels launched in January 2025 followed by Time Out Johannesburg in August 2025. Launches are also planned for Durban, Pretoria, and other sought-after travel destinations in the country.
KMR has put together a team of content specialists, editors, writers, and social media experts to showcase the best of South Africa’s unique culture and cuisine.
Anthea Carstens, General Manager of Kagiso Media Radio Publishing and Time Out South Africa, says attracting the right talent is a key part of KMR’s growth strategy.
“This new team will be instrumental in driving our mission to deliver the best experience for our audiences, while also supporting KMR’s commitment to excellence and impactful and purposeful storytelling. Talent is the heartbeat of our brand and investing in the right people for Time Out South Africa is key to our growth and relevance.”
Time Out South Africa Content Director, Andrew Hallett, says compelling content is rooted in experience and the ability of talented writers to take the audience on a journey.
“It is important that we highlight what makes South Africa special and the people who make it such a wonderful country to explore. From the amazing street food vendors to those providing five star experiences across a plethora of verticals, we will showcase the best of our cities and country as a whole.”
Hallett previously served as KMR’s Editor: Digital Content, driving the content strategy of East Coast Radio (ECR) and Jacaranda FM’s online offerings. He has worked within the digital media space for over 18 years.

Selene Brophy: City Editor, Cape Town
Brophy has been crafting stories for over a decade. Before joining Time Out South Africa, the journalist and editor led editorial and strategy for various travel and tourism clients.
“I’m excited to work with a global brand rooted in collaboration with the deep experience and network of Kagiso Media Radio – valuing storytelling, community, and expert on-the-ground curation. The opportunity to spotlight underrepresented voices, showcase the city’s dynamic cultural scene, and bring fresh, useful perspectives to both locals and travelers is hugely motivating,” she said.
Liesl Bartlett: City Editor, Johannesburg
Bartlett’s background is rooted in journalism, content creation, and digital media strategy. She is passionate about telling authentic local stories that resonate. Whether it’s a quirky café, a game-changing creative or a major event, Bartlett is on a mission to bring meaningful Johannesburg experiences to life.
“It’s incredibly exciting to be part of a global brand like Time Out, especially at this stage of its South African journey. I love that we get to champion the city’s creative energy, celebrate its people and places, and help both locals and visitors make the most of every moment,” Bartlett said.
Poelano Malema: Senior City Writer
With over 15 years of experience in the media industry, Malema understands what makes a good story. She has written high-quality content for several platforms, including two of South Africa’s biggest radio websites: Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio. Her passion for community upliftment is reflected in her writing.
“I love telling people’s stories. Whether it’s writing about a woman who makes the best vetkoeks on a city corner or a local artist who sells his pieces in a small shop, I like highlighting super-local travel stories because we often miss what’s right under our noses. Travelling and exploring other parts of the country and world is good, but don’t miss the hidden gems in your neighbourhood.”
Ishani Chetty: Social Media Manager
Chetty is aUniversity of Cape Town graduate with nearly nine years of journalism experience under her belt. She has won multiple awards and has worked across a range of well-known publishing brands. She is looking forward to creating impactful content that is both aspirational and visually capitating. Chetty says travel content is more than just a pretty picture on social media.
“It’s about creating content that is real and relatable to tangibly connect with our social audience. I want the audience to feel excited, to want to go out and explore their cities or the city they are visiting. I want them to engage with us and share their local favourites, to foster a connection between the brand and themselves,” she said.
Amy Fraser: Content Coordinator
Fraser’sprevious experience includes working as a content writer and producer for various broadcasting brands. As the Content Coordinator at Time Out South Africa, she looks forward to using her passion for storytelling to showcase the very best oflocal culture.
“I’m continually inspired by the richness and vibrancy of South Africa. I see my role as instrumental in shaping the broader vision of Time Out’s content by ensuring timely content updates and maintaining a fresh, engaging look across all brand websites – keeping our readers informed with the latest news, events, guides, and venue recommendations,” said Fraser.
Megan Baadjies: Digital Sub-Editor (Kagiso Media Radio)
Working behind the scenes, Baadjies ensures stories are publish-ready. She has worked in the media industry for 17 years, starting her career as a junior reporter in a fast-paced print newsroom and working her way up to Digital Editor. Baadjies ensures that copy is clear, accurate, and easy to follow.
“I bring years of experience with me, but I’m also excited to learn from a new environment and from the team. I’m especially looking forward to getting to know the Jacaranda and ECR audiences. There’s a lot of opportunity for growth here, and I’m excited to see where it leads.”
From giving locals the ultimate guide on where to go, eat, and sleep in Cape Town and Johannesburg to helping them explore iconic landmarks, the Time Out South Africa team is committed to curating memorable experiences for both locals and tourists.
“The foundations we are currently putting in place will lead to Time Out South Africa becoming the go-to destination for those who want to understand and explore their cities and country. There is so much to see, do, taste, and experience in this beautiful country and we are determined to highlight that with content which informs, inspires, and, ultimately, gets people out and about,” Hallett concluded.
