Zoetic Management, in partnership with Moja Multimedia, proudly presents the official premiere screening of the powerful new documentary film, The Legacy of Hope: Freedom Through Solidarity: The Russia, Cuba, South African Chapter. The screening will take place on Thursday, 26 June 2025 at The Wave Theatre Café, Cape Town.
This compelling 43-minute pilot episode forms part of a six-part series that delves into the rich, interwoven histories of South Africa’s liberation movements and the international solidarity that helped bring apartheid to an end. From Cuba and Russia to China and beyond, the film explores how nations around the world stood shoulder-to-shoulder with South Africans in their fight for freedom and why that solidarity remains vital today.
Through insightful interviews with prominent voices such as SACP General Secretary Solly Mapaila, Former State Security Minister MK Commander Ronnie Kasrils, Human Rights Chairperson Chris Nissen, former MP Hilda Ndude, trade union leaders, and former exiles, Legacy of Hope offers a unique and timely reflection on the global alliances that supported South Africa’s path to democracy. The documentary makes a powerful case for remembering solidarity not as a relic of the past, but as a legacy to be upheld and honoured in today’s shifting global landscape.
“Legacy of Hope is more than a documentary, it’s a reminder that freedom was never won in isolation. This film honours the powerful alliances that stood with South Africa in its darkest hour and invites a new generation to understand the meaning of global solidarity. We believe these stories must not only be remembered, but reactivated in the world we live in today,” says Co-Producer Marius Fransman.

“We want young people to see themselves in this story – not just as beneficiaries of freedom, but as its next custodians,” says Co-Producer Bo Mbindwane. “This film is a reminder that South Africa’s freedom was never achieved in isolation. It was the result of global sacrifice and solidarity. That legacy still matters.”
